Why Your Personal Statement is the Key to Admission into Grad School with Full Funding
↓
Welcome to the March 2025 edition of the GradSchool Fully Funded newsletter! This newsletter is my monthly conversation with you about all things graduate school admissions. If you aspire to attend graduate school in the United States to obtain a master's or PhD, and to do so with full funding, then you are in the right place. And if not but you know someone who does, please feel free to share this with them.
Every month we will discuss at least one thing that will help you along that path. As a newsletter subscriber, you will also get access to exclusive special offers and discounts.
The Purpose of the Personal Statement
In recent editions of the newsletter I discussed the importance of both purpose and strategy in graduate school admissions - including figuring out your "what and why," your "then what," understanding your prospective discipline, building the all-important grad school list, and writing your resume or CV.
Today I will focus on a prong within strategy, which is the personal statement. Please watch the short video below to understand why the personal statement is so important to securing a fully funded graduate admission offers.
After the video, please see 2 announcements below.
1). Special Call for Prospective Graduate Students Applying this Year
In addition to purpose and strategy, there is the all-important funding, without which choosing grad school is like choosing to be in the poor house.
In GradSchool Fully Funded, our framework is designed to help you marry your purpose with the appropriate strategy to make sure you receive admission with full funding -- a tuition scholarship and stipend.

So if you plan on applying to graduate school this year to enroll in a master's or Ph.D. program, I have news for you.

However, I am building a small cohort of applicants who plan on applying to graduate school this year, starting in the fall, in order to enroll in a master's or PhD program in Fall 2026.
This cohort will start GradSchool Fully Funded together in August this year and will be together as a group till July of next year.
So if you plan on applying to graduate school this year and you are interested in learning more about joining this cohort, let me know hereand I will send you more information.
It is important to let me know because I will only send this information to people who are interested.

What matters more—your GPA or your test scores? Learn how colleges evaluate both when it comes to admission and securing full funding. GPA vs SAT/ACT: What Really Matters for Full Funding in College Admissions Hello Reader, One of the most common questions I get from prospective college students and their families is this: What matters more in college admissions—in-school grades (your transcript) or standardized test scores like the SAT, ACT, or international exams such as GCSE or IB? The...
Admission Alone Isn’t Enough In this month’s CFF College Fully Funded® newsletter, I explain why financial aid applications are a critical part of the framework that helps students secure college admission with full funding. March 15, 2026 I hope you are having some beautiful warmer days as spring approaches despite all the challenges that abound around us. I am trying to do the same. I just took a few days to travel and spend time with my family during spring break. In the previous edition...
Families typically rely on grades, debt, or scholarships to handle rising college costs. Here’s why those approaches fail — and what works instead. The cost of a college education has risen exponentially — astronomically, really — over the last few decades. Meanwhile, household incomes have not kept pace. And yet… Education can still be one of the most powerful vehicles for upward mobility — if it’s done right and without the burden of education debt. To deal with rising costs, most families...
