The World Cup Lesson Every College Applicant Needs to HearWhy believing the impossible—and writing a memorable college essay—can change a student's future. June 17, 2026Hello Friend, today you are getting a special World Cup edition of the CFF Newsletter. If you are an international football (soccer) fan like me, I hope you are enjoying the World Cup. My situation is a little complicated when it comes to choosing who to support. I am rooting for several countries at once—the U.S. team, of course, all the African teams, and then all the underdogs. I will almost always root for the underdog. One of the things that has inspired me most so far has been watching the underdogs make waves on the world stage. Think about World Cup debutante Cabo Verde holding mighty Spain to a 0-0 draw, with their goalkeeper making one incredible save after another. Or #33-ranked Côte d'Ivoire defeating #23-ranked Ecuador 1-0 in their group opener. Or Curaçao, the smallest nation at the World Cup with a population of just 150,000, scoring a goal against four-time World Cup champion Germany—even if they ultimately lost the match. The World Cup reminds us that rankings, reputation, and history do not always determine outcomes. Perhaps the most inspiring aspect of the tournament is that it encourages us to believe in what seems impossible. That lesson applies far beyond soccer. It applies to prospective college students and their families who are hoping to secure admission to college with full funding and avoid taking on massive debt. Every year, many students assume that the most selective colleges are out of reach, that full funding is only available to a lucky few, or that their family earns too much to qualify for meaningful aid. Yet time and time again, we see students achieve outcomes that once seemed unlikely. With that in mind, I want to focus this week's newsletter on one of the most important components of the college admissions process: the college essay. The college essay is often the factor that helps students stand out among thousands of applicants with similar grades, test scores, and extracurricular activities. It is one of the few opportunities students have to help admissions committees truly understand who they are. Below is a video excerpt from a live coaching session inside the CFF College Fully Funded® program in which I answered a student's question about what makes a college essay memorable—an essay that lingers in the mind of an admissions reader long after they have finished reading it. Inside CFF College Fully Funded®, we spend significant time teaching students how to write memorable college essays. We guide them through multiple drafts and revisions to help ensure their essays are authentic, compelling, and admissions-committee ready. If your prospective college student is a rising senior applying to college this fall, there is still time to join the Fall 2026 session of CFF College Fully Funded®. The Fall 2026 session kicks off on August 24. If you would like to explore whether the program is a good fit for your family, reach out to schedule a conversation. To college fully funded,

Great college applications aren't built at the last minute—they're built with a plan. July 12, 2026 One question I often hear from parents is: "What does your program actually look like?" It's a fair question—and one that deserves more than a quick answer. Many families assume the college admissions process begins when students start filling out applications during senior year. In reality, the strongest applications are built over time through thoughtful preparation, strategic planning, and...
