The Grad School Resume or CV
↓
Welcome to the November edition of the GradSchool Fully Funded newsletter. Happy Thanksgiving in advance to readers in the United States who are celebrating this Thursday.
This newsletter is my monthly conversation with you about all things graduate school admissions. If you aspire to attend graduate school in the United States to obtain a master's or PhD, and to do so with full funding, then you are in the right place. And if not but you know someone who does, please feel free to share this with them. If instead you are interested in our program for prospective undergraduate students, please start here.
Every month we will discuss at least one thing that will help you along that path. As a newsletter subscriber, you will also get access to exclusive special offers and discounts.
Strategy in Graduate School Admission: Your Grad School Resume or CV is its Own Genre
In the last edition of the newsletter I discussed the importance of strategy in graduate school admissions, starting with building your graduate school list. Strategy is one pillar of the framework we use in GradSchool Fully Funded, our grad school admissions coaching program, in which we work with our clients to secure admission into U.S. graduate programs with full funding.
Another dimension of strategy in our GradSchool Fully Funded framework is writing your grad school resume or CV. Most grad school applications will ask you to write a resume or CV. While this is a common document that you may have written many times in the past, the grad school resume/CV is its own beast. And writing a good grad school resume or CV is certainly important in gaining admission into grad school fully funded.
GradSchool Fully Funded 3-Pillar Framework
The most important consideration in writing a grad school resume is demonstrating how your prior education and experience have prepared you for graduate school. If you are applying for a professional master's degree, highlight the relevant work experience that will make you a great addition to the program and enhance the learning of your fellow students.
If you are applying to a Ph.D. program, highlight your research experience that demonstrates you are a good researcher who is ready to take on the challenge of producing original research and advancing your discipline.
Therefore it is more important to list items on your resume/CV in the order of relevance rather than chronologically starting with your education. Any other experience you have that is not necessarily relevant but that you want to list can be grouped in a category of its own at the end such as "Other Experiences."
We cover this extensively in GradSchool Fully Funded, including the opportunity to have your CV resumed by trained Ph.Ds. You can join us, to get help crafting the proper grad school resume and CV as part of a whole program that helps you find, apply, and secure admission into grad programs of your choice fully funded.

The College Affordability-Democracy Nexus As college costs rise and alternatives are promoted, I examine why higher education still matters—for students, families, and democracy. January 11, 2026 In this first newsletter of 2026, we are picking up where we left off in our last issue: the question so many families are asking right now — is college still worth it? As I shared previously, for most people who would enjoy college and are prepared for its academic rigor, the answer remains yes. The...
Year-End Reflections: Is College Still Worth It? In our final newsletter of the year, we reflect on grief, gratitude, and why helping students secure college admission with full funding matters now more than ever. Why access, affordability, and full funding must be part of the conversation December 23, 2025 As we arrive at almost the end of December—and the close of another year—I want to pause and acknowledge something important. We made it. And yet, even as we give thanks for life, this...
This Thanksgiving, get early access to our biggest offer ever for CFF College Fully Funded®, GradSchool Fully Funded, CARA, and 1-on-1 consulting. It has been a tough year. Added to this is the rising cost of everything. Amid all of...
